September 3, 2015 Senate Meeting

TigerAnn, Cat
Hello All,

A brief update regarding the past Senate meeting as well as the upcoming meeting on 9/17:

The Senate meeting from 9/3 was largely uneventful (that's why comprehensive notes were not sent earlier).  The most important information coming out of Senate is the following:
    1) We were reminded that resource requests are due 10/15.
    2) Davit made a presentation regarding the budget.  We, as a district and as a campus, are still taking a very conservative approach to the budget.  Projections do not seem dismal, but nonetheless Davit anticipates a loss of funds as Prop 30 expires.  He sees the next year optimistically, but future projections unknown.
    3) We heard a presentation coming from the foundation.  Apparently some assets will be sold off to make sure that matching funds that were promised can be met.  Expect foundation matching to be less than it has been before for the next cycle or so while the foundation rights itself financially.  (We were not given more details than this, but if you have questions please let me know if you would like to voice them, or you can talk to Steve Rochford).

We just received the agenda for tomorrow a few hours ago.  I have quickly looked over it and most notable will be a discussion about requesting to send a statement regarding SLOs to the state Academic Senate (proposed by our own Roy Bauer).  We will also be discussing the upcoming academic calendars, which in the nicest possible way, look totally stupid.  Our very own Dan DeRoulet is going to be nominated to sit on the district calendar committee along with Jeff Kaufmann and Miriam (from the mathematics department).  Hopefully, we will see some progress.  Actual 16 not 18 week semesters anyone?  Wednesday before Thanksgiving as a non-instructional day?  Perhaps just the dreams of misguided, newly tenured but not yet jaded historian who believes change is possible...

Oh, and if you want to be on an accreditation workgroup, please forward your names. I will wait for my inbox to be filled.

Let me know if there is anything else about which you would like more info.
